About

A recruitment firm run by an engineer

SEM Talent was founded in 2026 in Greater Manchester. It exists because of a gap its founder kept running into from the other side of the table: the person screening engineering candidates almost never understands the engineering.

How we work

We are deliberately small. You deal with Sikandar directly: there is no account manager, no handover to a junior consultant after the first call, and nobody else writing your shortlist.

That puts a ceiling on how many searches we run at once, which is the point. A search gets done properly or it does not get taken.

  • honestIf the salary will not reach the market, you hear it on the first call, not after six weeks of silence.
  • narrowWe take briefs we can actually fill. The ones we cannot, we say so and suggest where to look instead.
  • technicalEvery candidate is screened on the engineering, by someone who has done the engineering.
  • quietNo CV spam, no calling your team, no pretending a speculative CV is a real candidate.

Sikandar Ejaz

Embedded engineer · runs SEM Talent

Sikandar is a working embedded engineer, not a recruiter who picked up the vocabulary. He still writes firmware and signal-processing code for a living, which is the whole reason this firm exists and the only claim on this site you should judge it on.

He holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from GIFT University and started his career as an embedded systems engineer at PTCL.

Engineering background
  • Process Flow Intelligence, 2025 to now. Electrical resistance tomography algorithms for an advanced production meter used in dredging: flow velocity by parabolic cross-correlation, bed height by coefficient of variance. MATLAB prototypes taken through to C++ on embedded Linux. FPGA, ARM, PIC18 and ADC/DAC front ends over SPI.
  • Lowe & Fletcher, 2023 to 2025. Led the firmware for an STM32WB55 Bluetooth Low Energy electronic lock, in C, covering remote management and password updates, plus the schematic and the PCB.
  • Published as co-author of a paper on tomography-based dredging instrumentation.
  • PTCL, embedded systems engineer.

Where we are

Manchester, working across the UK. Most of our work is remote or on site with clients rather than from an office, which keeps the fees sensible.
